Does Lego consider girls being greatest geeks than boys ?

Recently, the Lego group announced the opening of the first store in France, near Paris. Trough the referred article, we learned that Lego have finally found its product for your girls trough the Friends series. More girly colors, doll-looking minifigures, horse riding and fashion shows… We are far away from the cops of City or the light sabers of Star Wars. But still, we stay in the brick world of Lego as everything must be built. The numbers shows that this products does sell well, but they do not show if girls are builders too or if thy just play in a set built by their dad or brother.

Nevertheless, if you are looking for a Lego set designed for a preteen girl, you can check the Amazon LEGO Friends for Girls shop or the official Lego shop trough the banner above. But if you are looking for a geek set for a preteen boy… the Holly Grail is also there…

The best illustration may be this set: Olivia’s Inventor’s Workshop (set 3933). This set includes a worksop with tools, a blackboard, a microscope, chemicals and, best of all, a custom made robot !

Of course, we already saw robots in sets like Star Wars, but none of them have this custom geek look. We also may find sets with workshop and tools, but Olivia’s Inventor’s Workshop costs less than $10 where the LEGO City Garage (7642) is a huge set worth more than $200…

Actually, there are several accessories easily available in Friends sets rather than in the classical ones. Check Emma’s Design Studio (3936). For less than $10, you would have a whiteboard, a laptop and a camera… Laptops can’t be found that easily. As I know, they are only available in the Space Earth Defence HQ (7066) set (which costs more than $70) or with the Computer Programmer from Lego Minifigures Series 7 .

Speaking of tech accessories, haven’t you noticed how those girls are modern ? A lot of them have computers or cell phones. Which classic box does have a cell phone ? The cops from Lego city are still using the old walkie-talkie, just have a look on the one from Batmobile and The Two-Face Chase (6864) set, or any Lego City box.

Oh, one more thing. Aside from tech stuff, from some Minifigures series, we had nice musicians, mostly guitar players. How do we assemble a better band ? Well, by using some Friends boxes again… You will find a nice drum kit in Mia’s Bedroom (3939) and a piano, a microphone and a stage in Andrea’s Stage (3932). Both are less than $13.

So, how many of you are looking for those Friends series just for the accessories ?
