The Desolation of Smaug, Second trailer
We’ve been waiting for a second trailer and here it is. So lets watch those 2 minutes and 30 seconds of new footage.
Yeah, even if he is here, we see less of Legolas this time.
The first trailer of The Desolation of Smaug was some kind of a disappointment. It left the feeling of focusing on the characters of Legolas and Tauriel, none of which are in the book. Tauriel don’t even exist in Tolkien’s universe. They draw so much attention that I barely missed one of the most important character from the book, but we could have seen him only in a glimpse. This time, we can see much more about him. That character is Bard the Bowman.
The other really important character of this episode is, of course, Smaug the Dragon. We haven’t really seen him in An unexpected Journey. A tail and an eye isn’t seeing a Dragon. We saw a little more at the end of the first trailer of The Desolation of Smaug. In this trailer, there are longer scenes with Bilbo in Smaug’s lair, but no Dragon. Instead, for the first time, we hear him. Smaug is portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch and you can immediately recognize his voice. Sorry but it is funny to hear Sherlock and Watson in this situation.
So it is now obvious that in this part, they will reach Erebor and some images do suggest that they will reconquer the mountain. This mean that the third part, There and Back Again, will focus on the Battle of Five Armies. Of course, as Peter Jackson have modified the story to make it fit 3 long movies, Azog will certainly last until then.
See you in December for the full movie.
