IPhone 5 Crocs Edition

After each Apple’s keynote, it is the time to criticize the new products. Not innovating enough, not powerful enough, still the same… From several years, Apple is criticized for its apparent immobility which can give us some nice videos like this one.

But this year, Apple changed one design, and there is one inspiration which is obvious. This is about the iPhone 5C. If you think that the C stands for Color, you are all wrong. The C is for iPhone 5 Crocs Edition…

Smores at home

Smores over barbecue

Make your Smores everywhere.

What is the really best thing in life where you are around a campfire ? Guitars and songs ? Naaa… Smores of course. Those tasty sandwiches of roasted Marshmallows with chocolate between two crackers… Even if it is fun to be around a campfire, you need a fire to roast your marshmallows. Making them at home isn’t that easy and may be messy. We can even say dangerous with kids around.

Well, that was until now. Well, there are lots of smore cookers, but here is maybe the only one you can use everywhere. And yes, even on a barbecue, so maybe the best gift for Father’s day from any GeeKid.

A Father and son’s day with Lego

This year, Lego gave the Father’s Day theme. As a Father and son’s day, this is a great opportunity for a geekdaddy to share his gift with his geekid. And what does Lego has to offer ? Simply to share the playing universe in which the father and the son grew up.

Before having a peek on some sets, Lego set up a contest on their special web site (EDIT: the link does not exist anymore) for their french audience. It is a contest in which you have to design a spaceship from parts of existing Lego models. You can submit your own until june 17th.

And for the occasion, there is a special video featuring the best known father and son from the Galaxy. Yep, from the Star Wars galaxy.

Good introduction, lets get back to earth but stay in the Star Wars univers…

Star Wars

Lets begin with an awesome model at a decent price : Gold Leader’s Y Wing.

Lego 9495 Gold Leader

Gold Leader Y-Wing

Latest Lego’s interpretation of the Y-Wing, Gold leder’s Y-Wing Starfighter (9495) is an awesome set of 458 bricks. The assembled Y-Wing model measures over 16. It comes with 3 minifigures: Gold Leader (Dutch Vander), Princess Leïa in ceremonial outfit and astromech droid R5-A7. The starfighter is to be built in 3 steps: the main body, the cockpit and finally the engins. The Y-Wing’s body may be considered as the most difficult part, because of all the little details. The cockpit is much easier. As for the engines, you could build them with your eyes closed. You should plan 1:30 hour to assemble the model.

Compared to the earlier versions, the scale is more accurate and the model contains better details. The cockpit canon lost his vertical axis but it has an improved design.

The Y-Wing may not be as emblematic as the X-Wing (bombers are never the stars compared to fighters 🙂 ). But it is definitely a must-have to any Star Wars fan.

You can pick this model from Amazon: (#9495) – Gold Leaders YWing Starfighter

Gold Leader’s Y-Wing also comes in a Superpack. The Superpack box contains the Endor Rebel Trooper & Imperial Trooper Battle Pack (9489) box and the Elite Clone Trooper & Commando Droid Battle Pack (9488) box.

Y-Wing Superpack

Gold Leader Y-Wing Superpack

Usually, the Superpack price allows you to save on one of the small boxes. Even if you can find the superpack on Amazon, it comes with an unbelievable price: (#66411) Super Pack Gold Leader’s Y-Wing

So unless you are seeking this box as a collector (which is its current status), you’d better buy each box separately: (#9489) – Endor Rebel Trooper and Imperial Trooper and (#9488) – Elite Clone Trooper and Commando Droid

Super Heroes

The other great universe those days is the Super Heroes. As The Avengers are in our theaters, Lego released 5 sets in the Marvel universe. But the best set is not there, it is in the DC universe. Named Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape, it is obvious that the box contains Batman and the Jocker.

Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape.

Besides the funhouse, which is full of traps and tricks, the interest of this box is to gather Batman, Robin, the Jocker, Harley Quinn and the Riddler. The content of the box should be easier to assemble than the previous as it contains only 380 parts. The assembled funhouse features moving floor, opening trap door, hammer, crane and also a wagon rails and the Batcycle. It must be just as fun to build as to play with. It is a great Batman collectible and a great game set.

You can find this box on Amazon: (#6857) – Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape

But if you still prefer the Avenger sets, here are the links int the chronological order as the scene comes in the movie: (# 6867) – Cosmic Cube Escape(#6868) – Hulk Helicarrier Breakout(#6865) – Captain Americas Avenging Cycle(#6869) – Quinjet Aerial Battle

So, what do you plan for Father & son’s day ?
